30 Second Speech

By Bryan Dyson, Former CEO of Coca Cola

"Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them – Work, Family, Health, Friends and Spirit and you're keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls – Family, Health, Friends and Spirit – are made of glass. If you drop one of these; they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for it. Work efficiently during office hours and leave on time. Give the required time to your family, friends and have proper rest. "Value has a value only if its value is valued."

My Message:

The message here is straight forward and a great way of pointing out that some things in life are more forgiving than others. Some things you can get back and others if you are not careful could be lost forever, which can leave you feeling remorse. How do you juggle your 5 balls? Are you willing to let the rubber one bounce every now and again to protect the glass ones? Some of your glass balls might already have the odd scratch here and mark there, but that's only because you weren't willing to allow the rubber ball to bounce. You should always remember and value the valuables in life, sometimes you only realise their value when its too late. Family, friends, health… these are your roots. If you cut the roots you can't survive and the entire tree will die, nothing will be left other than your career or work life. Work will always be there, jobs come and go. You can get them if you so desire. Ends will always meet. Food will find a way to be put on the table, but you must always find a way in your busy schedule to bless and be grateful to the most valuable things in your life… Family, Health, Friends and Spirit. Hold on tight to these things as you need them for the long-haul and don't ever let them drop and shatter.

May you have an awesome week!
